Dream Con, Meet Houston: An Introduction to H-Town’s Anime and Gaming Culture

Houston, Texas, affectionately known as “H-Town” or “Space City” to native Houstonians, is known for its diverse culture, thriving arts and entertainment scene, and–of course—its passionate community of gamers and anime enthusiasts. As we prepare for our next convention, it’s worth exploring the aspects of Houstin’s  anime and gaming culture that have made it a great destination for Dream Con 2025!

A Melting Pot of Cultures

Houston’s diverse population has fostered a beautiful blend of cultures, which are frequently celebrated through art, food, and regular community events and festivals. This also extends to the local anime and gaming communities, who often bond over their differences and continue to uplift one another.

A Growing Gaming Community

According to the Houston Chronicle, Houston was named one of the top 20 best cities for video game enthusiasts, and it makes sense: There’s been a growing interest in eSports, which has led to the development of a strong gaming community supported by several retailers and plenty of opportunities to connect with other gamers at local tournaments.

A Thriving Anime Fan Base

The anime community in Houston has also seen significant growth. The city is home to numerous anime (and gaming) themed destinations, offering a way for fans to connect and celebrate their favorite fandoms together through watch parties, cosplay, and more. 

Now, with Dream Con making its move to H-Town for 2025, Houston is poised to become an even more prominent destination for anime and gaming fans from around the world. From its diverse culture to its thriving anime and gaming communities, it’s clear that it has a lot to offer Dreamers next year. We’re excited to call it our next home, and we hope you are too!
