Horror games have a unique way of immersing players into worlds of suspense, tension, and fear. While the atmosphere, storylines, and graphics all play a part, it’s the voice actors who breathe life into the characters, making us feel the emotional weight of every terrifying moment.
In honor of the spooky season, Dream Con is highlighting a few of these talented individuals whose voices have haunted and moved us in some of the most iconic horror games.
If you’ve ever played TellTale’s The Walking Dead, you’re probably familiar with the emotional journey of Lee Everett, a character brought to life by the exceptional talent of Dave Fennoy. Fennoy's portrayal of Lee, a man doing his best to protect a young girl in a zombie-ridden world, has been widely praised for its emotional depth.
Phil LaMarr is a voice-acting powerhouse whose talents extend across a variety of genres, including horror. Known for his work in major franchises like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Mortal Kombat, LaMarr has a versatility that few can match.
In 2019, RaVal Davis lent her voice to the character of Lauren Holt in Midnight in Salem, a game from the Nancy Drew series. While the Nancy Drew franchise is typically more mystery-driven, Midnight in Salem brings a darker tone to the table, and Davis’ performance adds depth to the game.
The contributions of these talented Blerds go beyond the screen. They’re part of a larger movement toward greater representation in both the gaming and horror industries. Horror, as a genre, has long been a space for exploring deep fears, societal issues, and human resilience. By bringing in diverse voices and perspectives, the horror genre becomes more relatable and more impactful.
